Who Reads What When: Literature Selections for Children Ages Three Through Thirteen

This list of over 500 titles, arranged by author, title, and age, is designed to help busy parents quickly evaluate or select books for their children. Titles were chosen from private school reading lists, Russell Kirk's Textbook Evaluation Reports , and the author's own favorites. The list contains classics and other well-known titles. Suggestions are given for choosing books and encouraging children to read. Librarians and teachers of children's literature will find wider coverage, subject classifications, and annotations in Judith Halsted's Guiding Gifted Readers ( LJ 2/1/88).
