Twentieth Century Music

Written for professional and amateur chamber music players as well as scholars of music and chamber music enthusiasts in general, Twentieth-Century Chamber Music is an introduction and guide to the most significant chamber pieces of our time. The volume explores the principal genres, techniques, and especially ideas that characterize the chamber works of this period. It is arranged not chronologically or by composer but topically, around the larger concerns - genres, formats, implied aesthetics - that distinguish "modern" chamber music, and "modern" music in general, most clearly from the works of earlier periods.
