This second edition has been revised and updated to include additional illustrations and two new chapters that examine improved street-tree planting techniques and the mechanisms for planning for trees in urban environments. The author questions Olmsted's well-known concept of bringing nature into the city, focusing instead on improving on nature through artful garden design. Throughout, the book's approach is to define the problem, establish the philosophical design basis, apply the design principle, and implement the planning and design.
