The early detection of reading difficulties

This third edition of The Early Detection of Reading Difficulties is divided into two parts. Part One provides for the systematic observation of young children's responses to classroom reading instruction. Part Two contains a set of Reading Recovery procedures for use in an early intervention program me with young children who have difficulty with beginning reading. The first edition, A Diagnostic Survey, 1972 outlined only the ways of locating children who need specially prepared individual programs. Teachers working successfully with that book and Dr. Clay's Reading:The Patterning of Complex Behavior asked that a set of procedures be developed to help them to re-teach the young children identified as having difficulty.
