Apart from St Paul, probably no Christian thinker has had a greater influence on western civilization than Augustine of Hippo. His two best-known works, The City of God and Confessions, are landmarks in the history of Christian spirituality, and both are sources for this wide-ranging selection of extracts. As with all the books in this series, the extracts are arranged under thirty headings, providing daily meditations for a month.
