The purpose of this book is not to dwell on history or even the current balance, but to assess the present and future of the Soviet Navy and other communist navies. Part One addresses the roles and missions of the Soviet Navy from three different viewpoints. Part Two looks at the component forces of the Soviet fleet. Part Three addresses the main theaters of Soviet operations: The Northern Atlantic and Arctic, the Mediterranean,m the Western Pacific, and Third World areas.
