The wars between red man and white on the many frontiers of the US form significant and highly colorful chapters in the nation's history. Thus they have held the interest of Americans, and a large body of history has grown up around them. But the sporadic nature of the conflict, the huge arena in which it was fought, the many personalities - both Indian and white - who engaged in it, and the tendency to note a few incidents, widely separated in both time and distance, have until now diversified that history so that it dealt with only isolated phases of the conflict. This book deals with the conquest of the Southern Plains as a whole.
