Translated by Irene Testot-Ferry. The Little Prince is a classic tale of equal appeal to children and adults. On one level it is the story of an airman's discovery, in the desert, of a small boy from another planet - the Little Prince of the title - and his stories of intergalactic travel, while on the other hand it is a thought-provoking allegory of the human condition. First published in 1943, the year before the author's death in action, this translation contains Saint-Exupery's delightful illustrations. About Antoine de Saint-Exupery Antoine de Saint-Exupery, born in Lyon in 1900, lost his father at an early age and was raised by his mother at the Castle de La Mole. He was a student at a Jesuit college, later an architecture student in Paris, a soldier in the Air Force, and a sales representative. In the twenties he became an aviator and flew the Toulouse-Casablanca-Dakar route. In September 1939 Saint-Exupery became a pilot in a reconnaissance squadron, in December 1940 he went to America, in 1943 he came to the front in North Africa. On July 31, 1944, he took off from Borgo Airport on Corsica for his last reconnaissance flight. He never returned. The wreck of his machine was located on the bottom of the Mediterranean near Marseille in 2000 and was lifted and identified in 2004
