The Kybalion

“The Kybalion”, based upon ancient Hermetism, was first published in 1908 by the “Yogi Publication Society”, under the pseudonym of "the Three Initiates". The book explains the “Mental Transmutation” (also described as Mental Alchemy, the Art of Mental Chemistry, and the Art of Polarization) what refers to the art of changing and transforming one's own mental states and conditions. The book devotes a chapter to each of its seven "Principles", or axioms: 1. The Principle of Mentalism embodies the idea that "All is Mind." 2. The Principle of Correspondence: there is always a correspondence between the laws of phenomena of the various "planes" of being and life: “As above, so below; as below, so above”. 3. The Principle of Vibration: motion is manifest in everything in the Universe, nothing rests, and everything moves, vibrates, and circles. This principle explains that the differences between manifestations of Matter, Energy, Mind, and even Spirit, are the result of only different "vibrations”. 4. The Principle of Polarity: everything is dual, everything has two poles, and everything has its opposite. 5. The Principle of Rhythm: in everything there is manifested a measured motion, there is rhythm between every pair of opposites, or poles, and enables transition from one pole to the other. 6. The Principle of Cause and Effect explains that there is a cause for every effect, and an effect for every cause. 7. The Principle of Gender: gender is manifested in everything.
