   Description
The Hackensack Water Works is the first of its kind to document the history of water treatment technology in America. The book covers the unique history of the historic Hackensack Water Works, a rare surviving example of water works engineering and architecture from the 19th and 20th centuries. The first half of the book is based on documents, letters and historic archives. The second half of the book tells the story through revealing oral histories of the people who operated the site's pumping stations and filtration plant and monitored the quality of the water. The Hackensack Water Works was a National Book award nominee and was awarded the New Jersey Historic Preservation Book Award in 2004. The Hackensack Water Works site is listed on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places and was designated an "official project" of Save America's treasures.
