The Eye of Shiva Eastern Mysticism and Science [first edition]

In the Introduction to his book 'The Eye of Shiva', Amaury de Riencourt quotes passages from the 'Bhagavad Gita' which reflect with uncanny accuracy man's first nuclear explosion: "If the radiance of a thousand suns Were to burst into the sky - " Although written thousands of years ago, it anticipates the point at which contemporary science departed from Western scientific tradition and converged with the new evolutionary framework of Eastern mysticism. In his erudite visionary book 'The Eye of Shiva' ("the all seeing eye which can penetrate to the hidden levels of existence impervious to normal sight") Amaury de Riencourt maintains that mankind is on the brink of perceiving "the invisible levels of consciousness and intelligence" previously known only to mystics. He explores the history of both traditions: the scientific Western, based on the Greek objective rational philosophy and the Eastern metaphysical concept of ultimate truth, and arrives at a viewpoint that their convergence would raise human consciousness to ever higher levels of spiritual reality, fulfilling Nietzsche's image of a Superman: "Man is something that is to be overcome."
