   Описание
Although Charles Gause was not born in Alaska, he was quick to embrace its outdoor wonders when he arrived in 1975. Armed with his 35mm camera and an eye for adventure he began building his extensive collection of reference materials. His paintings represent a composite of his personal experiences and observations. On occasion he has faced some tentative situations...like being too close for comfort to a brown bear he had been photographing. One of the most striking characteristics of the art of Charles Gause is the strong narrative element - the sense it creates of a story which expands beyond the frame. Viewers think about what brought the figures in a scene - whether animal or human - to that spot and they reflect on what will happen next. This narrative impulse is evident in several themes which recur in Gause's work, including, among others, myths of Alaska's past. This volume is an extension of the first edition. It chronicles 66 limited edition prints published through December 1995.. It also contains a selection of original works painted during the same period.
