Description
Features: brand new high quality Made of high-quality materials for durability TIG Welding Tungsten Electrode 1/16 x 7 2% Thorium Red for TIG Welders The presence of traces improves arc ignition and allows for higher current capacity. The red electrode brings less tungsten into the lake and causes less contamination of the weld. A 2% thorium tungsten electrode (AWS classification EWTh-2) contains at least 97.30% tungsten and 1.70 to 2.20% thorium. They are the most commonly used electrodes today favored for their longevity and ease of use. Thorium improves the electron emission quality of the electrode which improves arcing and allows for higher current-carrying capabilities. This electrode operates at temperatures well below its melting temperature which greatly reduces consumption rates and eliminates arc drift resulting in improved stability. It also has less welding contamination than other electrodes. Unlike pure tungsten these electrodes are only used for special types of AC welding (thin gauge aluminum or material less than 0.060 inch) but they are especially suitable for DC electrode negative or positive on carbon and stainless steel nickel and titanium applications. During the fabrication process thorium is uniformly dispersed throughout the electrode. This uniformity allows the electrode to maintain a sharp edge - an ideal electrode shape for welding thin steel.
