Starting to Read

Starting to Read is a unique beginning reading book for secondary and adult learners. The text reinforces the vital concept that print conveys meaning. At the same time, the text develops students' recognition of a base of written English. Eight lessons address topics appropriate to all students -- family, home, school, and daily activities. Each lesson begins with an introduction to basic vocabulary. Subsequent activities include word recognition, grammar practice, language experience, and controlled reading. Each lesson concludes with students writing information about themselves.
