Spirit & Vessel - Dao yu Qi tells the story of Jingdezhen porcelain master Shi Yuren (1928-1996), a founding member of the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute in 1958 and deeply respected, innovative artist and teacher through more than 20 years of persecution followed by restoration of his reputation and both national and international recognition until his death in a bicycle accident in 1996. Fully bilingual (English and Chinese), with 82 pages of full-color plates, the book also features the works and reminiscences of 7 masters among Shi Yuren's first generation of students: Zhang Yuxian, Qi Peicai, Peng Jingqiang, Qin Xilin, Guo Wenlian, Zhang Xuewen, and Zhong Liansheng. The book accompanied an exhibition at Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute held from 9/16/2004 to 10/16/2004.
