Set in the year 1942 during World War II, the storyline of this game follows OSS sniper Karl Fairburne who, as part of the Allied forces, is assigned the task of General Franz Vahlen’s assassination and the uncovery of his classified project. On the hunt for Vahlen, Fairburne finds himself in North Africa where he kills many officers and discovers a document that reveals the name of Vahlen’s top-secret project - Project Seuche. Fairburne soon finds out that a British informant, Brauer, might know where Vahlen is, so he seeks out Brauer and soon learns that Vahlen intends on conquering Europe by utilizing a super-tank codenamed Ratte. Now, before the tide of war turns to the Axis powers' favour, Fairburne must destroy Vahlen's weapon of abject destruction. Retaining and building on Sniper Elite V2’s mechanics, the gameplay of Sniper Elite III is non-linear and sees the player travelling through massive mountain ranges and vast plains that are set in North Africa. With the sniper rifle being Fairburn's primary weapon, you get to take long-range shots to kill potential targets and overcome adversity. The player can also use submachine guns, pistols and hand grenades. In addition, one can deploy land mines, tripwire booby traps and dynamite as well. Stealth mechanics have been revamped and the player-character must hold his breath so as to execute a shot accurately. A newly implemented vehicle kill-cam can be utilized to take out armoured tanks and cars with a single shot in the gas tanks of vehicles. Thanks to the X-ray kill-cam, you get greater graphic details of the muscular and circulatory system when sniping out foes. Also featuring the competitive multiplayer and co-op modes, Sniper Elite III is undoubtedly a high-octane, guns-blazing action game that will leave you wanting for more.
