Sharply in contrast to the frantic tempo of the city she fears, Letty Fraser's seaside village of Colins Cove, Nova Scotia, life appears to be slow-paced and simple. Yet, in the space of a few months, a youthful Letty experiences the widest range of emotions from sorrow to joy, from pain to peace, from restraint to love. Temptation in the form of a man unlike any she has known challenge her values. Although she would fly, free as a seabird, her actions are constrained by principles as fixed as the rock-bound home that she loves.
