Scofield Thayer and "The Dial": An Illustrated History

Scofield Thayer and The Dial, is a study of the magazine The Dial and the role it played in American art and letters after 1920, the author discusses those who produced The Dial, financed it, and were vitally interested in it as critics and members of its general audience. It contains over 65 pages of paintings and sketches from The Dial and the Dial Collection and the folio Living Art. Among the artists represented, many were little known at the time their works appeared in The Dial, are Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Edvard Munch, Auguste Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Ivan Mestrovic, Aristide Maillol, Marc Chagall, Georges Braque, Gustav Klimt, Ernst Barlach, Pierre Bonnard, Rockwell Kent, Gaston Lachaise, and others-a total of over 75 illustrations.
