Science and Math : Grade 1-6

The projects in this book were developed to introduce art to children in Grades k-6. All of the projects are easy to understand, quick to do, and cost effective. Minimal preparation time is needed and clean up is a snap. If finding time for quality art lessons is a problem, try including one of these projects as a supplement to an academic area. * Collect all of the materials for the project. * Read the tips to help set up the project. *Write the vocabulary words on the board and refer to the definitions in the back of this book. *Show prints of famous works of art found in your library to enhance a project. *Introduce the color wheel and talk about primary and secondary color. *Follow the steps given and don't worry about perfection. *After the project is completed, discuss the artwork. Have children critique their own work by finding something they like and something they don't like about the finished product. *Display your masterpiece throughout the home or school. *praise the artists for their efforts. Always use available resources such as the local library, art league, or museum to bring art into your classroom and home. The ability of art education to nurture creative and abstract thought makes it a valuable part of a child's development and must not be ignored. Most importantly, have fun with each project and enjoy the world of art.
