The novel embodies the existence of two lives, the first is beautiful, which the young man (Ali) lives innocently, and the other he lives after he is shocked by the reality of things. When a young man who grew up in a poor village searches for love and life, he faces walls that separate him from that. In the whirlpool of class differences, Ali loses his lifelong friend Saad and his beloved Munira, and becomes unemployed after his graduation. The taste of love changes, so he decides to go out into the street with his old friend, Hassan, and with those demanding their right to work. He is arrested and his old friend, who graduated and became an officer, is interrogated. His concepts of life are confused, so he agrees to the conditions of his old friend to get out of the impasse by severing his relationship with his beloved Munira, who is Saad's sister. He discovers that the wall of salt that his blind aunt's husband was touching as he bid farewell to his only son is a real memory of pain. But that memory turns into success after he embodies his memories in paintings and becomes a famous artist.
