The two protagonists Avinash (Farooque Sheikh) & Gita (Deepti Naval) belong to different social strata./ The bitteresweet romance stars in college where Gita admires his philosophy on life. He is proud of his humble origins and paints a clear picture of the comparable differences to her upper middle class background and wants to change the world with his truth and simplicity. Gita falls in love with the man and his outlook. Soon they get married. As one could conventionally say the twist in the tale comes with Avinash's transfromation. His frustration at the lack of financial security is poignant. As he takes a job at a publishing house morals are set aside and he thinks like a ruthless businessman. Publishing commercially viable books such as inane novels he treads the very path he once hated. Gita is not supportive of the easy withdrawals of principles. Her questions at various points are taken very lightly.
