Rendang suir (atau suwir?) ini aslinya bernama Runtiah. Konon ide pembuatan rendang ini awalnya timbul pada saat Idul Adha, dimana saat itu banyaknya daging kurban membuat ibu-ibu di Sumatera Barat mencari akal untuk membuat olahan daging yang bisa disimpan cukup lama. Rasa dagingnya lebih menonjol dibandingkan dengan abon. Sangat nikmat dimakan dengan nasi panas atau bisa juga sebagai taburan bubur, mie atau dibuat sandwich.
