Real People

A recent visitor to Lancaster County concluded that the tourist bureau was paying people to dress like Amish and ride around in horse-drawn buggies until after Labor Day for the benefit of the tourists. This assumption is far from the truth. These people are real. They live here beside the Mennonites and other neighbors. Their way of life springs from deep religious conviction together with a cultural carry-over from Europe and is in no way intended for display. Real People is not intended to be a history or a textbook on theology, but simply to tell you about my people, the Mennonites, and my neighbors, the Amish.
