Railroads through the Coeur d'Alenes

The Coeur d'Alene Mining Dist, the silver capital of the county, will celebrate the centennial of its opening in 1983. And although the past 100 years have held periods of both wild excitement and others of deep depression, throughout it all railroads played a vital role. This then, is the pictorial history of these railroads serving an area that produced wealth far exceeding that of the famed Comstock Lode of Nevada. Yet it is not only a history of the railroads alone-nor the mines, but a testimony to the spirit of adventure and achievement of men and women challenging a rugged frontier country.
