Frankincense Oil is extracted by steam distillation from the oleo gum resin. The therapeutic properties of Frankincense essential oil include use as antiseptic, astrigent, carminative, digestive, sedative, tonic and expectorant. Frankincense is said to rejuvenate the ageing skin, and is effective with bacterial and fungal infection. The anti-inflammatory property of this oil is reputed to be an effective treatment for joint pain and arthritis. Frankincense oil soothes and calms the mind, slowing down and deepening breathing. It also helps to calm anxiety and obsessive states linked to the past. It can be useful to ease heavy periods. Frankincense oil can be used in a blended massage oil or diluted in the bath for colds and coughs. It is used for healing and prevent ugly scarring on wounds. For cracked skin and bed sores, apply gently (suitably diluted) directly on to affected areas or use as a compress. Frankincense has a woody, spicy, haunting smell, a little bit camphoric, but very pleasant.
