Psychology for Social Care

A new text introducing the theories and concepts in psychology relevant to the social care arena, with particular emphasis on research and policy from an Irish perspective. Considers the relationship between research and theory and its effect on and application to practice within the social care arena. Reflects the new HETAC Award Standards for Social Care Work 2010. Demonstrates the relevance of psychology in day-to-day practice within the field of social care. Current Irish research and studies permeate the text, with works such as TILDA, the OMC longitudinal study, SLAN and the HBSC, among other studies, underpinning key themes, issues and concerns. Applied issues in psychology, such as the efficacy of psychosocial interventions, are included. Case studies are used to encourage students to apply their knowledge in a practical way and to engage with psychological theories and ideas.
