Wordsworth is a poet for all time. One of the first of the Romantics, the essence of that amazing cultural movement is easily discernible in his poems, in his passion for liberty, his love of nature, and his belief in the importance of human feelings rather than cold reason, for, above all, it is his recognition of '...the unassuming things that hold silent station in this beauteous world' that makes him still a poet to be learned from as well as enjoyed. In this handsome volume are collected together the best of Wordsworth's poems: important extracts from The Prelude and The Excursion, over forty poems from Lyrical Ballads and over sixty from other works, as well as 'The Waggoner' and the charming 'Peter Bell'. The works were selected by H.M. Margoliouth, late Professor of English at Oxford University, who also contributes an informative biographical introduction.
