Paradigms and the Unexpected ( Modern and Contemporary Art From the Shey Collection )

For nearly two decades, Gainesville, Florida residents Steve and Carol Shey have assembled an outstanding collection of modern and contemporary art. The collection is rich in artistic vitality, variety and depth and resonates with the particular sensibilities of the collectors and the changing aesthetic approaches and ideas of the times. It features major artists and art movements of the 20th and 21 centuries, including paradigms of artistic achievement and unexpected works that add depth and uniqueness to their collection. The collection also explores the range and complexity of works of artists throughout multiple decades during their careers. The catalogue accompanied an exhibition of the Shey Collection that was displayed at the Harn Museum of Art from February 10 to May 18, 2008. Paradigms and the Unexpected features an essay by former Harn Museum Director Budd Bishop and modern artist entries by Harn Curator of Modern Art Dulce María Román and contemporary artist entries by Harn Museum Curator of Contemporary Art Kerry Oliver-Smith
