Illustrated with 34 color and black and white photographs and maps, "On the Trail of the Dade County Pine" is likely the first book written exclusively about Miami-Dade County's native pine and pineland forests. The book briefly recounts the history of Miami-Dade's unique pine rockland forests and includes some of the author's recollections about his outdoor experiences while growing up in South Dade starting in the late 1950s through his work as Metro-Dade's Urban Forester in the mid 1970s. The book also describes how the finest remaining example of what Miami-Dade's original pineland forest once looked like became the county's first pineland preserve--the Nixon Smiley Pineland Preserve.
