This is to ensure two people can sleep comfortably beside each other. Otherwise, the two people will end up laying on top of one another. If you wish to lay across the bar and use it as a large bed for a single person, we recommend against this as it can be uncomfortable. This is to prevent humans from pooling in the middle which would occur without the middle bar.
