SIGNED and inscribed/dated in New York ‘To George Gutekunst- whose verve and dearth of fear were perfect for the tasks and the richness of Kenya, in all its brutal beauty and sizzling grace. Victory Is Assured’ by the author on the first free endpaper. George Gutekunst was aSausalito restaurateur whose rediscovery of African bush pilot Beryl Markham’s memoir, “West With the Night “ propelled it to the top of the best-seller lists. 1st edition, 1st printing, complete number line. Dust jacket is fine in protective mylar sleeve. Book has dusting/foxing to the edges of the pageblock and mild wear to the base of the spine. The late Fletcher Foundation Fellowship-, Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York Man of the Year-, and Windham–Campbell Literature Prize-winning Crouch was a poet, music and cultural critic, syndicated columnist, novelist, biographer, and author of ‘Considering Genius: Writings on Jazz’ and ‘Kansas City Lightning: The Rise and Times of Charlie Parker’.
