North and East of Wigan (Pt. 2) (The Industrial Railways of the Wigan Coalfield) [first edition]
Описание
Part 2 of this serious history of the numerous industrial railways that served the Wigan Coalfield in South Lancashire covers the railways north and west of Wigan as well as providing detailed information on the coal field, the canals and the public railways. The authors cover over 200 years of history, tracing the railways from the earliest horse drawn trams to the demise of the collieries' diesel powered trains in the 1980s. The book is organized by town (with numerous clear maps) so that it is easy to follow the development of both the collieries and the railways over time in a particular area. Includes locomotive rosters, lists of industrial firms, proprietors, and locomotive builders. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos. This book contains Chapters 16-28 and 5 appendices. 266 pages.
