The free first-person shooter video game Nexuiz was created and released by Alientrap. The DarkPlaces engine, a modified version of the Quake engine, is used in the game, distributed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). For the Xbox 360 and Steam, a remake using CryEngine 3 with the same name, Nexuiz, has been made available. On May 31, 2005, the original game was made public. Nexuiz closely resembles the Quake deathmatch gameplay. Nexuiz stands out for being distributed under the GNU Public License, which makes it unrestricted in terms of use and modification.
