New Battles Over Dixie: The Campaign for a New South

Dr. John W. Slaughter grew up in South Alabama's "piney woods," picked cotton as a youth, worked in the Mobile ship yards and paper mills, and has been active both in the labor and civil rights movements. He taught social and political philosophy at the University of South Alabama in the 1970s. While he now resides in Atlanta, he has maintained his ties with the Alabama New South Coalition.
