Il giorno in cui scattà la foto al sudden-death del giocatore Alan Ameche era il giorno del suo sedicesimo compleanno, e questa partita tra Ny Giants e Baltà more Colts viene ancora oggi considerata la pià grande partita mai disputata. Da quel giorno il football sarebbe stato il pià pericoloso avversario del baseball su suolo americano ed il Championship NFL l'evento pià atteso. Nonostante sia pià conosciuto per la foto di Muhammad Ali e per l'enorme quantità dà foto sportive che ha scattato, le immagini del calcio sono proprio quelle che Leifer ritiene siano il suo lavoro migliore.
