Martine and Jean take in a lost cat who is expecting little ones. Roll on the birth of baby cats About the Author Marcel Marlier was born on November 18, 1930, in Herseaux, a commune in Belgian Picardy, near the French border. At sixteen, he enrolled in decorative arts at the Saint-Luc school in Tournai. In July 1951, he finished his studies with the highest distinction. He returned to Saint-Luc as a teacher in 1953. Still a student, Marcel Marlier received an award for his talent as a designer during a drawing competition organized by La Procure editions in Namur. They immediately hired him to illustrate works intended for schoolchildren, such as the Unique Book of French. Two educational works passed through his hands, which left their mark on a whole generation of students with the freshness of the drawing: I read with Michel and Nicole and I calculate with Michel and Nicole. The collaboration with La Procure will last more than twenty-five years. But from 1951 Pierre Servais, one of the managers of the publishing department at Caster man, was seduced by the ease of the line of Marcel Marlier, and he offered him to illustrate books intended for young people. He will thus illustrate books written by Alexander Dumas (The adventurous cruises of captain Pamphile, 1951), the countess of Segur (Le petit de Crac, 1953; Un jour de Bonheur, 1960) or Madame le Prince de Beaumont (La belle et the beast, 1973). He will also participate in the Farandole collection, intended for children. In 1954 began his collaboration with Gilbert Delahey for the adventures of Martine, his flagship series (60 albums published to date, 100 million copies sold worldwide!). In 1969, still at Caster man, he creates the series Jean-Lou et Sophie: twelve titles in total, of which he is both the author and the illustrator. Marcel Marlier passed away on January 18, 2011, at the age of 80.
