The publication of a new 256-page book based on a lifetime of hunting experiences in Idaho authored by Fred Scott of Wallace, Idaho, titled "Memories of Hunting Idaho's Golden Era," has been made by Stoneydale Press of Stevensville, Montana. Wallace's Fred Scott , a lifelong miner who is now retired, earned lasting fame as an elk hunter in the mountainous country of northern Idaho when he took a record-book elk in 1964 but that was but a single episode in a hunter's life passionately spent pursuing wild game and achieving recognition as a "common man's storyteller" for more than a half-a-century in what has often been termed as the "golden era" of Idaho big game hunter. A man for whom the experience of hunting elk, deer and bear and sharing that experience with friends, relatives and comrades far outweighed the taking of any trophy, Scott recounts the highlights of 65 hunting episodes spanning the years since his first such adventure in 1952. In the process, he offers insights into both the how and why of his hunting big game in the wilds of Idaho, giving us insight into not only the experiences in quest of big game but a homespun, common man's lifestyle hacked out of a wild land that both challenged and inspired him. In the introduction to his book, Scott says this about his hunting adventures: "I believe that the hunting experience is not measured by the size of the trophy harvested, or the value of the meat harvested, but instead the memories of the experiences afield."
