Translated from the original Yiddish by Murray Kass and Moshe Starkman. Illustrated with 14 b/w photographs. Laikin, born Samuel Dov Ber in 1896, in Russia, came to the USA, Baltimore, in 1914. Sections are: Early Years: In the Old Country; In America: Years of Struggle; Communal Activity: Frustration and Fulfillment." After being in business for himself awhile, he then worked as a travelling agent for a rag firm, travelling in every city and town in the US and Canada, as well as Japan and 13 countries in Europe.
