Описание
Rear cover notes: "Considered by many the most important painter of the 20th century, Henri Matisse (1869-1954) also produced in his remarkable lifetime a number of dazzling paper collages. Twenty-four of these innovative 'cut-outs' have been meticulously reproduced for this exciting full-color collection of ready-to-mail postcards. During a prolonged convalescence in 1941, Matisse discovered that one artistic activity he could physically manage was to create compositions from cut painted paper, a medium he had experimented with a decade earlier. A number of his collages first appeared together in his book Jazz in 1947, which reflected the artist's thoughts on art and life. The volume contained several designs with circus and theatrical themes - among them, such intensely subjective creations as The Sword-Swallower; The Horse, the Rider, and the Clown; and Pierrot's Funeral. Those designs are reproduced here as well as such remarkable creations as The Lagoon (an evocation of Matisse's visit to Tahiti in 1930), Christmas Eve, Vegetables and 18 other distinctive compositions. Available in one one convenient inexpensive volume, this unique full-color collection, 'drawn with scissors,' promises to delight art lovers and postcard collectors alike. Original Dover (1989) publication. 24 full-color postcards. Introduction. Notes. 16 pp. 9 x 12. Paperbound."
