Maritime Tel Michal and Apollonia: Results of the Underwater Survey 1989-1996 (BAR International)

A report on the underwater survey of Tel Michal and Apollonia located on the Mediterranean coast of Israel, within the Sharon Plain. The ports date from the Bronze Age to the Persian period and from the Byzantine to the Crusader period, respectively. No evidence for a harbour was found at Tel Michal but two were surveyed at Apollonia at the foot of the Crusader fortress, one for international trade and the other for local use. A large number of finds were also found off Apollonia including a statuette of Minerva, anchors, metal and marble objects, amphorae and other vessels.
