Maritime History: The Eighteenth Century and the Classic Age of Sail

This is designed as an introductory text for undergraduate courses in maritime history and the eighteenth century. This series of essays, developed from an NEH Summer Institute in Early Modern Maritime History at the John Carter Brown Library, is designed to summarize the latest interpretations in this field, introducing students to the wider literature. There is no other up-to-date, basic text currently available in this field.
