Majolica, a type of tin-glazed earthenware was first introduced in Britain by Minton at the Great Exhibition of 1851, in imitation of the maiolica of the Italian Renaissance. Victoria Bergesen's definitive study of the beautiful ceramic form was the first to be published in Britain. This is a careful study with meticulous research of the decorative influences throughout sixty years of majolica's golden age.
