In 1761 a French ship ran aground off an island in the Pacific. There are one hundred and sixty slaves on board. The sailors refuse to order a sloop to be built. Finally, this is built together by the slaves. But when it finally goes on board, the slaves are left behind. Fifteen years later, the fate of the black people left behind becomes known. Some men decide to bring the last survivors off the island. Irene Frain received the Prix Palatine du roman historique for this in 2009.
