This volume may be the only existing book written on this extremely specific and specialized piece of Americana. Privy bags are Lancaster County's most humble contribution to the genre of Pennsylvania German folk art. Sometimes referred to as "outhouse bags," these utilitarian sewn or quilted bags were used to hold scraps of paper or cloth to be used in the family privy. Now extremely rare and collectible, these pieces have long needed some sort of reference.
