Kate, who is obsessed with shoes, is besieged by three men however she hates all men and marriage is the last thing on her agenda. The men in her life are Richard, a hefty removalist who is going places and is virtually kidnapped by Kate s parents to marry their daughter, Peregrine, a bored public servant who tells unfunny jokes and Angelo a backpacker from Italy who s English leaves a lot to be desired but he does make a beautiful pizza. Kate s parents are passionate about things and they have an almost Pinteresque obsession with their new, burnt umber lounge suite but that is only just the beginning.
