Red boards in nice condition, very minor scuffing. Bright gilt seal on front board; bright gilt lettering on spine, some rubbing to text box on spine. Filled with b/w photos and maps. By isolating Rabaul, the Allies effectively made its large garrison (which outnumbered the defenders on Okinawa) prisoners of war without having to fight them. The last Allied airstrike on Rabaul took place on 8/8/45, only weeks before the Japanese surrender. This book is the second in a five volume history of Marine Corps operations in WWII.632 pages including index, not including 12 extra pages of maps.
