Irish Augustinians [first edition]

In 1992 the Irish Augustinians celebrated the centenary of the foundation of Patrick's College, Rome. To mark the occasion it was decided to publish a comprehensive account of the development of the Irish Augustinians' base in the Eternal City, from its first foundation at San Matteo in Merulana in 1656, through the vicissitudes of five displacements, before its final establishment at St Patrick's, on the site of the Villa Ludovisi on what is now the present Via Piemonte.From their base at Rome the Irish Augustinians reached out to all the world and this volume would seek to recognise also the valuable work of Irish Augustinians in every one of the five continents. A survey of this valiant missionary activity over the years is captured in a series of varied outline histories sketched by the contributors to this book.
