Debut novel of John Steinbeck's son after an earlier collection of stories set in the Monterey Peninsula of his childhood. This first novel is about the Chinese in California and the 1906 Earthquake. The book's wraparound dj showing Cypress Point (the 'Lone' cypress) has the distinction of having been photographed from the south, rather than from the cliche'd northern angle.
