Описание
Janet Lybrand Baker was born January 4, 1914 to Karl and Eva Lybrand, pioneers in the movie business in a small Texas town since 1907. The Majestic, their single screen theatre which is still in operation today in Wills Point, celebrated its 100th anniversary in April of 2007. After high school, the author went away to a girls' school to major in journalism. As a member of the school's golf team, she sprained her ankle and returned home to convalesce. That's when she met the young Family Practice doctor in town who eventually married and treated her for the next 63 years. The period for the story is between The Great Depression years through World War II. The doctor's dream was to build the county's first hospital/clilnic. He realizes his dream shortly after WW II. The author and her doctor husband had two children, Horace Anson (Pat) Baker, Jr., and his sister, Shirley Ann Baker. Dr. Baker practiced medicine for 54 years outliving most of his patients. He delivered 5,299 babies when doctors were not afraid of malpractice, and he retired at 84 and died at 92. Mrs. Baker died April 6, 2004 at age 90.
