I’m Not Normal; I’m Original is the touching memoir of a woman, Amy, who underwent significant trauma throughout her life—namely, surviving domestic violence and being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). Amy lived in a tumultuous family environment after her parents’ divorce, one where her father freely gave her money to get high and forget about her problems. When she saw a way out by marrying a man and moving across the country, she took it. Then, while pregnant with her second child, Amy’s life came crashing down: she began having symptoms of MS. Amy’s struggles to come to terms with her MS diagnosis coincide with her surviving a seventeen-year-long abusive marriage.
